Our Story
The Pursuit of "Being There"
You know that split second when the music stops being just sound and becomes a physical presence in the room? We at Henry Audio live for those moments.
Our goal isn't just to play files; it is to close the distance between you and the recording venue. When you really listen—channeling your inner Ringo, Dylan, Jack White, or Maria Callas—the equipment should vanish, leaving only the emotion. The DA 256 digital-to-analog converter acts as a time machine, taking you back to the moment of the performance. After all, turning digital code into human emotion is what this DAC does.
The Henry Legacy
Henry Audio was founded by Børge Strand-Bergesen as the result of a lifelong passion for good sound and the challenge of converting between digital data and analog emotion.
The company is named after Børge’s grandfather, Henry. He made solid things all his life as a shipbuilder and a devoted family man. We can't honestly put the Henry Audio badge on anything that isn't rock-solid and respects his principles.
From Military Precision to High-End Audio
The DA 256 is the result of years of focused electrical engineering. To get this kind of extraordinary sound, we went to engineering extremes.
The power supply architecture inside the converter was originally developed as part of a military research project for the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI). They needed custom laboratory equipment to catch incredibly fast, precise pulses from sensors. We use that same obsessive precision to provide clean power to every chip inside the DA 256.
We also tackled the timing issues that plague simpler equipment. By using local precision oscillators and re-clocking every incoming signal, the DA 256 acts as a conductor, ensuring that digital timing is perfect. The result is a palpable, dynamic, and strikingly natural sound that lets you listen for hours with zero fatigue.
Norwegian Design, German Quality
We believe High-End audio should be beautiful, accessible, and easy to live with.
The stunning look of the DA 256 is the brainchild of Norwegian industrial designer Suzanne Arnesen. At only 17.3cm (6.8in) wide, with a protruding front lip that catches the light, it is a piece of timeless Scandinavian elegance designed to be seen.
But design is nothing without execution. The DA 256 chassis blends solid aluminum with a genuine wood base. It is Engineered in Norway and Made in Germany.

A Promise Kept
We live and breathe accessible High-End. At the time of writing in early 2026, more than 100 DA 256 units have been delivered to our early adopters. Not a single one has been returned.
Whether you have an all-analog system and want to try digital, or you are looking to step up from a mass-market streamer, Henry Audio is here to make the transformation effortless.
Don't just listen. Experience.
